Private Equity Investment: The "Takeover" of Health Care

New York – September 20, 2007

Sophisticated private equity firms with significant amounts of capital are investing more broadly and deeply in health care services companies. The drivers of this activity are that health care is a huge market with a high, stable growth rate; there is increasing demand for improvements in care delivery and financing of that care; and health care information technology solutions are spreading as multiple efforts to achieve necessary standardization and interoperability among health care providers and payors are coming together.

The latest in the Cain Brothers Strategies in Capital Financewhite paper series, titled “Private Equity Investment: The “Takeover” of Health Care” discusses the forces behind expanding private equity activity in health care and highlights some of the important private equity fund management groups and the kinds of opportunities they are pursuing.

Todd Rudsenske, Managing Director of Cain Brothers and the head of the firm’s financial sponsors activities, said, “Health care represents a significant opportunity both to put large amounts of capital to work and to invest in new business models that aim to provide care that is better, faster, and cheaper. Private equity firms are responding to these opportunities and have become a significant factor in many segments of the industry.”
